Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide. In the U.S., about 1 in 8 — 1 in 9 in Japan — women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime — meaning it’s not rare and anyone can be affected.
You might think, “I’m young,”
or, “I don’t have any lumps, any symptoms right now…”
But are these reasons keeping you from getting screened?
Breast cancer is highly treatable when detected early —
and the earlier it’s found, the greater the chance for successful treatment and survival.
When diagnosis is delayed, however, the disease can become more advanced and life-threatening.
Here at Breast Cancer Diagnostic Clinic,
we provide a breast screening service you can truly trust —
designed to give you peace of mind, even if you’re visiting Japan or living here temporarily.
Our process is thorough and efficient, for mammography and ultrasound exams, we explain the results on the same day so you don’t have to wait for answers. For any further confirmatory tests, we will guide you through the next steps of your diagnosis.
Our clinic is conveniently located 1-minute walk from Takanawadai Station in Minato City near Shinagawa Station, Tokyo,
offering high-accuracy breast cancer screening in a calm, professional environment.
Whether you are a visitor to Japan or an English-speaking resident,
you can count on our experienced medical team — including English-speaking physicians —
to support you through every step.
Feel confident and assured about your health, every day.

01.
High-Accuracy 3D Mammography
We use three complementary diagnostic tools to assess breast health. Each of the three types of medical devices has its own characteristics.
Your examination begins with 3D mammography and breast ultrasound to evaluate the breasts thoroughly.Mammography excels at detecting calcifications, while ultrasound excels at detecting lumps.
If needed, we then determine whether breast MRI is appropriate.
Based on these results, a biopsy may be recommended for a definitive diagnosis.
02.
Fast, Streamlined Diagnosis
We offer same-day mammography and ultrasound screenings, with results explained on-site by our specialists immediately following your exam.
When further evaluation is needed, advanced testing is carried out as part of a seamless diagnostic pathway, allowing for a smooth and timely definitive diagnosis.
03.
Breast Screening After Breast Augmentation
Breast screening is available for patients who have undergone breast augmentation surgery.
In addition, the condition of silicone breast implants can be evaluated using MRI,including assessment for possible implant rupture.

Understanding Japan’s National Health Insurance System
In Japan, almost everyone is enrolled in a public health insurance system (universal coverage). If you present a Health Insurance Card or My Number Health Insurance Card at the clinic, your visit is treated as insured medical care, and you typically pay 30% of the cost out of pocket (the percentage may vary by age and income).
Please note: this “health insurance” is different from what many people associate with life insurance or property/casualty insurance in the U.S. or Europe. It is a public medical insurance program that helps cover the cost of healthcare. Employees—including those working for multinational companies with offices in Japan—are usually covered through an employer-based public health plan.
Key points to prevent misunderstandings
Tests and treatments are selected based on medical necessity.
Under Japan’s public health insurance rules, physicians can order only tests that are clinically appropriate and medically necessary. If there is no medical indication, requests to add, change, or omit tests “based on preference alone” may not be permitted.
Insured care and self-pay services generally cannot be mixed in the same visit.
For example, adding elective tests that are not medically necessary may require a separate self-pay appointment.
Costs can differ greatly depending on whether a service is insured or self-pay.
Please let us know your purpose of visit (symptoms vs. screening) and your preference (insured vs. self-pay), so we can guide you appropriately.
Referral letters can help when visiting a specialist clinic or arranging imaging studies.
Medication and test names vary by country.
If possible, bring prior reports, imaging results, and a list of current medications.
If you have any questions, please contact our staff before your appointment.
Add-on: Key notes to prevent misunderstandings
If we cannot verify your insurance eligibility at the time of your visit (e.g., your insurance card/My Number insurance status cannot be confirmed), you may be asked to pay the full cost upfront (self-pay). Once eligibility is confirmed later, you may be able to claim a refund for the insured portion, depending on the situation.
Screening without symptoms (e.g., elective checkups similar to a full medical checkup/“Ningen Dock,” or optional screening tests) may be not covered by public health insurance and handled as self-pay.
Public health insurance in Japan does not mean “everything is covered.” Coverage depends on medical necessity and what is eligible under the insurance rules.
